Wow, Bill. Just wow. I guess that I thought that what we were doing was good the Corridor community. I guess that since we're not involved with a store, we're somehow hurting stores?? I believe that we're doing the opposite. We are helping to make the MAGIC community stronger by providing another outlet for people to play the game we love. We are helping to make the singles market (something that we're not providing) stronger by making people WANT certain cards. "Wow, that card whooped me, where can I get one of those?" Not here unless someone is nice enough to trade one.
If providing a safe, understanding, non-profit place to play our games and maybe help some people learn important concepts such as sportsmanship and camaraderie, is a bad thing, then go ahead and say your piece. If providing affordable product in the form of drafts and providing some introductory sanctioned events, that makes people want to seek out higher events, is a bad thing, then your speech is justified. If events like ours, as well as those that happen in colleges and universities are bad as well, then please plead your case to them as well, because ultimately, they are pursuing the same thing that I am - a place to play.
I encourage you to rethink your words when Wizards Organized Play representatives announce a grass-roots program at the end of this month from Las Vegas. As a matter of fact, I encourage you to find out what people like Helene Bergeot and Chris Galvin think of events like ours. Our events are truly a launch pad for people excited about possibly going pro. And if, for some reason, our town had no store like BZ or CHG, then what would people do? As we're non-profit, we have NO FEAR of our event closing down ANY TIME SOON. I prefer stability, safety, and flexibility.
So I ask you once again, is what we are doing with our grass-roots event/program truly bad for the MAGIC community? I believe not. Is our group actually a benefit to the community? Before answering that question, I encourage you to read what a given parent has to say about what we are doing for individuals in our area:
http://www.ccgamers.org/testimonials.htmlBill, please stop by sometime. We have never seen you at one of our events. A good journalist gets all the facts before reporting. As you seem to be the voice of Magic in our beatiful state, please get the facts about CCG and report your personal findings to the Magic community. Find out what we're actually doing, how we're doing it, and form a solid opinion that way. I see that you have HEARD about the way that my events are run and organized. Instead of hearing about it, please come down and experience it. THEN report your findings. Until then, I believe your words to be unsubstantiated and unnecessary. I guess this is our group's way of "calling you out".
Please evaluate your priorities as a player as well as a member of the corridor communities. I'm looking forward to seeing you soon, Bill. It would be an honor to welcome you to CCG.
